International Executive Officers Re-elected

LAS VEGAS, NV (September 20, 2007) International President Warren S. George, International Executive Vice President Michael J. Siano, and International Secretary-Treasurer Oscar Owens were each unanimously re-elected at the 55th ATU International Convention meeting in Las Vegas on September 20.
WARREN S. GEORGE assumed the office of ATU International President on Tuesday, July 1, 2003. He was unanimously elected to a full three-year term by the 54th ATU International Convention in 2004. He is the seventh International President in the Union's 113-year history.
George is a native of Pittsburgh, PA. After a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy, he was employed as a bus driver for Critchlow Bus Lines in September, 1956. In January 1963, he assisted ATU Local 85 in organizing Chritchlow and he became a member of the Union after that successful organizing drive.
Service to the Local Union
On June 20, 1963, George was elected Executive Board Member - Operators, of Local 85, and in 1968 he was elected as Executive Board Member - Maintenance. Now working for the Port Authority of Alleghany County, he subsequently held the positions of President and Financial Secretary-Treasurer of Local 85 from June 1970 through June 1975. He also served as a Delegate to the Alleghany County Central Labor Council during these years.
Service to the International Union
In September 1975, George was elected an International Vice President, and member of the General Executive Board at that year's ATU International Convention. On May 1, 1990, George was appointed Special Assistant to the International President.
On August 1, 1993, George was appointed International Executive Vice President. In September 1995, he was elected to his first full term in that position at the ATU International Convention.
On September 30, 2002, the General Executive Board unanimously approved Warren S. George to succeed the retiring International President on July 1, 2003.
Warren George and his wife, Janice, reside in Adamstown, MD. They have three grown children.
MICHAEL J. SIANO became International Executive Vice President July 1, 2003. He was unanimously elected to a full three-year term by the 54th ATU International Convention in 2004.
Siano started in the transit industry as a bus operator for Public Service Coordinated Transit in Jersey City, NJ, in September 1959, following service in the U.S. Army. He joined ATU Local 821-Jersey City, NJ, on December 1 of that year.
Elected International Vice President in 1981
Siano was elected Shop Steward at his property in 1962, and President of his local in 1972. On October 1, 1981, he was elected International Vice President at the ATU International Convention.
In July 2003, he became International Executive Vice President, and was elected to that position by the International Convention in 2004.
In addition to his duties as "IEVP," Siano directs the International's organizing efforts.
Siano and his wife, Judy, reside in the Washington, DC area. They have four grown children.
OSCAR OWENS was appointed as International Secretary-Treasurer of the Amalgamated Transit Union on January 1, 2001, and was unanimously elected to that office at the 53rd ATU International Convention of September of that same year. Owens was unanimously re-elected to that office by the 54th ATU International Convention in 2004.
A U.S. Army veteran, Owens began his career in the transit industry in 1966, with ATU Local 192-Oakland, CA, as an operator for AC Transit. His union career began in July, 1973, when he became shop steward. In 1977, he was elected local union president and served in that position until 1982.
Elected International Vice President in 1986
He joined the international staff as a special organizer in 1982, and was appointed International Representative in July 1984. He was elected International Vice President in 1986.
Owens and his wife, Betty, presently reside in the Washington metropolitan area. They have three grown children.
